There is a duality of social marketing, companies want to attach a direct ROI to “social networking” as it were and it just doesnt exist, that said, they should not allow their social marketers to engage only in the loose/conversational style social engagement. Prior to handing out the next paycheck they need to see a well thought out social media strategy with campaigns designed to reach the customer at their current stage of awareness with their company and indicate indicators of success / KPIs specific to this campaign. Only then can you truly begin to explore the possibilities of social marketing.
